Using Sedatives for Dental Procedures
Many people are afraid of coming to the dentist office. Some of those fears may come from a bad dental experience, some people just have very sensitive teeth, and some people can’t stand the sound of the drill, the feeling of a shot or the smell of antiseptic. If this describes you, here in our dental office we have a number of methods to help you relax. We use sedatives or medication to help people with the greatest amount of anxiety. If you have strong fears and concerns we may use the sedative Lorazepam in a pill form. It is excellent at relaxing you so that dental work can be completed.
For less anxious patients we have nitrous oxide gas or “laughing gas” (picture). The level of relaxation is more mild but still enables you to overcome any fears you have of the dental procedures we will be performing. With all sedatives we focus on providing the right amount for relaxation and recovery once the procedures are completed.
We Have a Non-Sedation Approach
At Aesthetic Family Dentistry we have a revolutionary technology to naturally ease anxiety that is fast and very easy to use. The technology is called NuCalm® and is made by Solace. NuCalm® is safe and proven system that relaxes you with sound therapy and removing light. It naturally brings your body to the first stage of sleep. You will feel like you do when you are just about to fall asleep.
The video below is from a news station in Pennsylvania with Dr. Matthew Kingston and provides a quick overview of how NuCalm® works.
