We’re becoming the small percent of dentistry because a lot of corporate has started to take over other offices. A lot of combination or groups have been formed and all those just mean bigger, which means more volume of people both working but also patient-wise. And I think that one-on-one attention gets lost in there and too many times people walk away feeling like a number or just a stat for the practice and it’s the exact opposite here.
We treat each other like family, which allows us to treat patients that come in like family and have that kind of, for me, midwestern approach but kind of the way medical doctors used to do home visits. We kind of bring that to the table where we only see people one-on-one. We have plenty of time for anybody that comes in and plenty of time for them to get their questions out, for us to listen, and for us to talk on any concerns that they might have or that we may see.
I think that’s the biggest difference is just that one-on-one care that I think people are craving but don’t get in in most offices because we now are the really small percentage to operate like that. I’ve been at this location 25 years, my hygienist is 23 years, and the rest of my team are 10 years or more, but I’ve had a lot of people prior to that that five, seven, ten years is not unusual, especially for here in Arizona where it’s more transient. A lot of people come and go, a lot of people move, and that’s really the only reason I’ve lost anybody along the way is they move out of state or a couple retired along the way too with me.
But yeah, I mean, we create that kind of, we care for each other and that allows us to care better for the people we’re serving. We’re not going to judge anybody no matter how long it’s been or what kind of neglect maybe has happened or anything they’ve done in the past. We’ll start from where we are today, just sit down before we do anything and just talk through any concerns they notice or anything, any symptoms or pain they might have and make a game plan from there.
But go about it slowly and introduce them to this slowly and then find out what’s kept them away I think is the biggest thing because usually there’s something, whether it be a poor childhood experience or just poor experience even as an adulthood or just too much Google entertainment, read too many things about like horror stories because those are so rare and so minimal. But I think bad experiences stay with us and so we’ll talk through that so we know maybe better how to approach them going forward if we do need to do care and such.
