Partner With A Proven Winner

Finally, a neighbor that moved here at the same time we did found a doctor. So, we had a GP. And we’ve been out here about three or four months and we started talking about we need to find a dentist. And we got a card in the mail from Dr. Roderick and it was close. We lived in the Desert Ridge area. My wife came first for a cleaning and she liked the group. So, then I came in and I’ve had dental work done all my life, just about. When I was a kid, I didn’t do a very good job. I had to have a lot of caps redone over 11, 12 years, I guess.

You know, I had a couple of root canals before I came out. He sent me to have another root canal. He sent me to have an implant a couple of years ago. And I think one of the best things I’ve heard them say about a referral when he sent me over there, the doctor said, “Well, you know, you’ve got a partial and when we do this implant, you ought to have a new partial. And I said, “Well, you know, I hope not. I just had it done a couple years ago.” And he said, “Well, if anybody can put it in without doing it, it’s Dr. Roderick. You’re in the right place.” And I said, “Well, thank you.”

So, I still got my old partial, and like I say, he’s done… probably 10 or 12, 15 caps since I’ve been here. But I started in 1961 in the service and had a lot of fillings and things, and a couple of caps after, in the early 60s and things. So, all of them had to be replaced. Basically, when I came in, they took X-rays and everything, and we went through everything. And he said, “There’s not anything we need to do right now, but down the road, these are some of the things you’re gonna run into.”

I come three times a year for a cleaning. So, he comes in and checks everything, and they do X-rays once a year, I believe. And, so he goes over those with me and what possibly might be coming down the road he can see it, little problem up there. And, what has happened, he’s done an excellent job of replacing those caps because it’s cavities under them. And he’d get very close to the roots a lot of times, and he’d say, now, you know, you may have a problem with this, you may have to have…and one time I did have to go get a root canal, I mean, on it, but I think I’ve got two root canals up in here. But he’s very good at explaining things. And another thing that I’ve never had done before in my life is after I have a procedure here, the day I go home, I get a call from him that night wanting to know how everything’s going. I think the last time he did send me a text, so maybe we’re moving on up to…but, you know, first time he called me, so for me, I mean, I never had that happen. You know, most times once you leave the dentist’s office, you’re finished.

Dr. Roderick has been telling me to wear my night guard. And I didn’t get on board with that right away. He explained that, you know, at night, it’s not grinding, but, you know, my teeth are cracked. And so when they did the X-rays and they were like, “You gotta do it.” They showed me the cracks on the X-ray, and that’s where the night guard comes in. And you can’t just get a night guard from, you know, the drugstore. It has to be the night guard, and I wear it every night now because I want my teeth to stay like this.

He’s very thorough. He wants our teeth to look their best from the inside out. You can tell. I have such confidence in him because, over the years, I can see that we’ve had outstanding dental care. We’ve had big issues with our teeth and we’ve had, you know, just the regular cavities and everything in between. And I just feel like the care and also his bedside manner or chairside manner is just right on point.

We’ve been coming here for, I believe, over 20 years. And Dr. Roderick has taken such good care of, not just myself, but my entire family. I have never had any doubts about the care that I received, questioned it. Every time I come here or I bring my kids here, I know that we are getting the best treatment possible. No need to, you know, second guess a doctor or get a second opinion. You just know. You feel that you’re in good hands. Over the years, it gives me peace of mind when things come up. For instance, my son chipped his tooth when he was a kid and it was his front tooth. And, Dr. Roderick fixed it, but it was in a place that we always knew that it could chip again, just keep chipping in the same place. And as an active boy, that tooth would chip, but he also had anxiety about it. So when that tooth chipped, it didn’t matter if it was the weekend. I could call Dr. Roderick, and Dr. Roderick would come here and meet myself and my son and fix that tooth. And recently, now that my son is 26, that tooth has been fixed permanently. So, he doesn’t have that issue anymore.

It all kind of started was, I wasn’t feeling really good, and I had a lot of silver in my teeth, and then I also had a baby tooth that I had never had an adult tooth under it and it was cracking and needed to have a bridge. And so we talked about removing all the silver and how it could make you feel much better. And so I went ahead and we did that slowly but surely because I had quite a few fillings unfortunately. But once that happened, you know, and even from the first filling I knew that, you know, this was gonna be my long-term dentist because everything was great. And when we did the bridge, that was a whole new way of learning how to take care of it. And they worked with me really well on being able to understand that and the importance of taking care of it. And you don’t want to get another bridge. So, that was really helpful.

So, I think that, you know, just those things, trying to make myself feel better in the long run and just make my mouth feel better was my biggest goal. And so we achieved that. That was really pretty cool because he takes pictures. So he’s very thorough. He’ll take a picture and show you, “Okay, this is what it looks like, and this is why we need to take care of it.” And then afterwards he’ll show you what it looks like now and then you’ll be like, “Oh my gosh.” Right?

And so he’s very thorough that way, so it’s not like you’re going in blind like you don’t understand. Like, he’ll show you in your mouth with the camera, you know, exactly what he’s doing and how it’s gonna be done if you so need to have that information. Some people don’t like to look at it probably, but I’m always curious and I like to know, you know, what’s going on. I feel better. I’m a much better flosser now, which is a big deal, but I think all of the overall outcome… I mean, people always tell me, “You have… Hey, Chris, best smile.” I always say, “Well, I, you know, attribute that to Dr. Roderick.”

I love coming to Dr. Roderick’s office because the people are great here and they’re always very kind and considerate and very helpful. Answer all your questions. And, of course, Dr. Roderick is amazing. So, I just feel really comfortable when I come into the office. He’s like, just super sweet, super nice guy, very considerate. Like I said, my mother was here for quite a few years and he was always so nice with her. He’s great with the kids. I think he’s just all-around. He remembers who you are, what you like, your family. He’ll ask you questions, you know, how everybody’s doing, and, you know, it’s nice to know that he actually remembers you as a person.

And Michelle’s great. Michelle does her cleanings and she’s always super nice. And same thing. I’ve been coming for so long that we just chit-chat about family and stuff like that, but they’re always just super considerate and very thorough. You know, and she’ll say, “Oh, you need to floss more,” and things like that. So, you know, I always try and stay up on top of everything, but they’re always really good. And then Priscilla helps the doc with all the other procedures and stuff that he does, and she’s really nice and sweet too. So, I don’t get to see her as often because I am staying healthy. Well, I think even from doing the appointments and making sure that everything is scheduled from the estimate, actually finding out what you have to do or what’s needed to be done, then Holly gives you an estimate, which is really kind of cool. And she does everything. Like, she’ll explain about your insurance coverage and stuff like that for you when she can. And then, you know, that’s from the start. And then they schedule all of your appointments. So you know when your appointments are gonna be up ahead of time. And then you come in and everything is, they’re just always so set up and ready for you when you walk in the door. There’s really not any wait time usually.

So I think I came in for…it was like just a routine cleaning, and I mentioned to the hygienist that I’m having these headaches, and, you know, they just talk to you about your life, how are you doing? How’s your kids? They know every…they remember the details of people, which is great. How are your kids? How’s this? How’s that? And I said, “Everyone’s doing great, but I’ve been experiencing these headaches only in the morning.” I don’t know why I shared that, and they really caught onto that because I guess it can be in relation to your teeth and to your smile. So they started asking me questions about that and they said, “Is it in the morning?” And it was often in the morning, a couple of times a month I get these really, really bad migraines to where I couldn’t get up and drive my kids to school. You have to sit there. You would love to have a massage and have someone massage your shoulders and head because it’s so painful. And they said oftentimes migraines and things like that come from grinding, headaches when you’re grinding your teeth and I had never really put two and two together that that could be the cause.

So I needed a few more procedures done in order to be fitted for this, what he recommended was a mouth guard. So we went through that process and got the mouth guard and as soon as I started using that every night, all of the headaches and migraines went away. I don’t think…it’s probably been a year and I have not had one where it’s related to my mouth, right, where I wake up in the morning and I’m having pain. That’s completely gone. So I would have never known that, and I think if they wouldn’t have probed and asked those questions, the problem wouldn’t have been solved so I’m grateful that they took the time to do that. That was very, very impactful for me.

I think the different choices of what you can do to get through the dental experience if you’re nervous or fearful of having work done, I think that’s what changed my decision to wanna have continual care at the dentist, which you’re supposed to do, right? So, I think having the different options, you know, whether it was laughing gas or prescription, I never knew that the dentist could prescribe a medication for me. And I’ve used that a couple of times when I’ve had major work here. And that changed everything for me because I wasn’t so uptight and uneasy. It just changed my demeanor and how I felt going into that big procedure.

You know, I’ve had a root canal, I’ve had a couple of crowns, and I don’t think I could have done that before. I used to be very nervous about having that type of work done. So, I think the attention to detail and offering different options has been huge. They have headphones you can, you know, kind of drown the sound out and watch a movie. I mean, they just offer you so many different things. And they don’t make you feel rushed here or that you’re weird if you have concerns about, I guess, anxiousness about going to the dentist.

I’ve recommended several people here. And I think what I would say is, if you’re looking for someone that is thorough, that’s caring, and that understands and can work with whatever circumstance you have, whether that’s kind of planning out how you’re gonna get things done if you have a busy schedule, they have a great front office here with Holly and with Dr. Roderick. They’re just very caring. And so I would highly recommend to my friends and family to come to the dentist here.
It’s been one of those experiences that I don’t normally recommend things and I can’t recommend this office enough because I feel comfortable here. And I think that’s huge when you’re paying for something regarding, you know, your health and your smile. And I wouldn’t recommend it enough. I think I’ve had a very positive experience and my husband comes here too, and we’ve recommended it to lots of our friends.
