This April is Oral Cancer Awareness Month, and we want to encourage all of our patients to schedule their next dental exam! During your exam, we will look for signs of oral cancer, as well as other oral health concerns like cavities and gum disease.

We’re also sharing a video for you to watch on how to check for oral cancer at home! It’s important to spread this awareness and pay attention to the signs of this disease. The earlier you treat it, the better!

Holidays are a time to enjoy shiny things – but maybe not metal braces. If you worry braces will make you self-conscious, ask Dr. Russell Roderick about Invisalign orthodontics. The clear plastic aligners are practically invisible in your smile.

In addition, the aligners can be removed for meals and for oral hygiene. You can eat whatever you’d like without worries about food getting caught in wires, and keeping your teeth clean is a snap. Not only that, but most patients complete their Invisalign treatment in less time than braces.

If you’d like to find out if Invisalign is right for you, call 480-420-9562 to schedule a FREE consultation at Aesthetic Family Dentistry in Cave Creek, AZ.

The holidays may look a little different this year, but you’ll likely still visit with family and friends. While your gatherings may be smaller than usual, you’ll still want to look great. Ensure your smile looks its best with cosmetic dental treatments!

You can complete some cosmetic treatments in just one visit to our Cave Creek, AZ office. Others, like home whitening treatments, won’t take more than a few weeks. All will result in a smile you can’t wait to show off. It will feel good to treat yourself after months of limited contact with others.

Even better, cosmetic consultations with Dr. Roderick are free! Call 480-420-9562 today to schedule one. He’ll help you determine which cosmetic procedures are best for you. He can even use digital images or wax models to give you a better idea of the results you can achieve.

In the meantime, we’ve provided an overview of some our cosmetic dental treatments for you here.

Hide Imperfections With Bonding or Veneers

Most of us have smile flaws that bother us, whether it’s a small gap between teeth, a chipped tooth, or a misshapen tooth. The good news is, you have a choice of two cosmetic dental treatments for concealing them: dental bonding or veneers.

Important factors in making your decision are:

Brighten Your Pearly Whites

Whitening is one of our most popular cosmetic dental treatments. You can whiten your teeth several shades with an in-office treatment or whiten at home for convenience. Either way, your results will be brighter than you can achieve with products sold in drugstores.

If you don’t have much time before your party or other event, an office treatment is the way to go. It takes only about an hour. It usually takes a few weeks to get the whitest results at home.

Make a Small Change for a Big Impact

Making just a small change can have a big effect on your smile’s appearance. If you need no more than a small change, you may want to consider:

As if COVID weren’t enough of a threat to our health and safety, we also have to beware of the risks to our oral health resulting from this once-in-a-century global pandemic.

But first, the good news!

Your friends at Aesthetic Family Dentistry are here to help you maintain healthy teeth and gums with exceptional preventive care in a clean, safe, and comfortable environment. Not only have we taken steps to ensure our dental office exceeds the CDC’s recommended standards for safety and infection control, but we’re committed to our ongoing efforts in the early intervention of anything that threatens your oral health.

To do that, we need to see you! If you’ve been putting off your next hygiene appointment, we urge you to visit us soon so we can make sure your mouth is protected from two significant dental problems we are seeing every single day in our Cave Creek office – both of which seem to be yet another consequence of COVD-19.

#1 – Stress Is Taking Its Toll On Teeth!

We’ve been seeing this issue for months, and now, the research confirms it. Dentists are reporting a higher incidence of patients who have cracked and broken teeth, which is likely linked to the surge of stress so many of us are experiencing because of the pandemic.

People who are already prone to grinding and clenching their teeth can be more susceptible to dental wear and tear, as well as painful jaw problems, as a result of this often involuntary response to stress. And 2020 has certainly given us all plenty to stress about!

#2 – Face Masks & Free Time Aren’t So Great For Smiles

Another problem we’re noticing more and more each day is a higher rate of new cavities and gum disease. Again, the stress caused by the current health crisis likely has a lot to do with it, especially given what we already know about the negative impact of stress on the immune system.

But along with that, there is the added complication of wearing face masks over the last several months. The science shows that wearing a face mask dries out the mouth more easily, which creates a haven for harmful oral bacteria that attack teeth and gums.

People are also giving that bad bacteria more fuel to thrive and fester in their mouths. That’s because quarantines, lockdowns, and working remotely have left many people stuck at home with more time to snack on junk food or bake their favorite sweet treats. The excess sugar and carbohydrates are comforting in a time when we definitely need some comfort. But all that yummy goodness also attracts bacteria, the same kind that causes cavities and gum disease.

So, it looks like face masks and more time at home aren’t the best combination for your smile. We’re all doing our part to stay safe during the pandemic, but it’s not without a higher risk for tooth decay, cavities, and periodontal infection. And we see the proof nearly every day in our Cave Creek practice.

While we do encourage you to practice moderation when it comes to sugar and refined carbs, we would never suggest that people shouldn’t wear masks to prevent the spread of the coronavirus. We just want to make sure our patients know that some of these protective measures also mean your routine dental hygiene visits are more important than ever.

It’s our job to help you minimize the risk for cavities and gum disease with dental cleanings and exams so these problems don’t go unchecked, become more serious, and require more involved, costly dental treatment. And it’s a job we take very seriously!

That’s why we invite you to call Aesthetic Family Dentistry today at 480-420-9562 and schedule your next dental appointment in Cave Creek, AZ. We’ll take every precaution and provide excellent care to keep you safe, healthy, and happy!

Hello to our wonderful family of patients,

We are happy to report that our Phoenix area dentist’s office is open and ready to serve you once again. Our team wants you to know that we’ve been thinking of you and that we hope this message finds you and your family safe and in good health. Our community has been through a lot over the last few months, and all of us are looking forward to resuming our normal habits and routines. While many things have evolved, one thing at Aesthetic Family Dentistry has remained the same: our constant commitment to your safety and health.

As you have surely seen during your visits to our office, infection control has always been a top priority for our practice. Our strict processes have consistently made the care you receive with us both safe and comfortable.  In addition to our already strict infection control protocols, we would like to share the additional measures we have been working on that you will see at your next office visit.

For example:

Upon entering the office, we will take a temperature reading and ask some screening questions. You’ll be asked to use hand sanitizer which we will provide.

You may see that our reception area will no longer offer magazines, children’s toys, and other items that cannot be properly disinfected. You are encouraged to bring your own iPad, reading materials, etc.

Partitions will be up where treatment recommendations are reviewed, appointments made and business transactions occur.

We are installing medical-grade air purifiers in each treatment room and the reception area.

You may notice different masks/shields for certain procedures.

Should you choose, you may wait in your vehicle and be texted when we are ready to bring you directly to the treatment area.

Appointments will be managed to allow for social distancing between patients.

We will do our best to reduce waiting times for you, as well as to reduce the number of patients in the office at any one time.

We want to assure you we have the best sterilization protocols in place and are closely following recommendations by the CDC, ADA, and OSHA.  We will also continue to monitor these entities for any updated guidelines which may occur.  We are committed to keeping you safe while you are in our hands.  We look forward to seeing you soon and are happy to answer any questions you may have about the steps we take to keep you, and every patient, safe in our practice.

If you are having a dental issue or have been putting off one now is the time to request an appointment, please call our now open dentist office at 480-515-0404. Unresolved dental concerns only get worse and lead to more problems.

Thank you for being our patient. We value your trust and loyalty and look forward to continuing to improve the health of our patients, neighbors, and friends in the safest way possible.

Sincerely,

Dr. Russell W Roderick and TEAM
